The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, recently made a significant statement regarding his role in the administration of President Bola Tinubu. He clarified that his appointment was not intended for the purpose of selling lands within the FCT but was primarily focused on enhancing and improving the infrastructure of the territory. This assertion was made during the inauguration of the construction of the 15.5-kilometre Pai–Gomani Road in the Kwali Area Council, a project that he believes will bring substantial benefits to the region.
Wike expressed his deep commitment to supporting President Tinubu in his vision for the FCT. He emphasized that his daily agenda revolves around infrastructure development, highlighting its importance for both urban and rural areas. By focusing on infrastructure, Wike aims to create a more connected and efficient environment for the residents of the FCT, ensuring that both city dwellers and those in rural communities can enjoy improved access to essential services and opportunities.

During his address, Wike also shed light on the agricultural potential of the communities located along the expressway leading to Gomani. He pointed out that these areas are blessed with arable land, which, if properly utilized, could significantly boost agricultural production. The completion of the Pai–Gomani Road is expected to facilitate better transportation of goods and services, thereby enhancing the livelihoods of local farmers and contributing positively to the economy of the region.
However, despite the optimistic outlook for the road project, Wike did not shy away from expressing his concerns regarding the manner in which the construction contract was awarded. He noted that while the project aimed to connect Pai and Gomani, it failed to address the critical link from the Abuja – Lokoja Expressway (A2) to Pai. This oversight raised serious questions about the project’s overall feasibility and effectiveness in improving transportation in the area.
Wike articulated the confusion surrounding the decision to construct the road to Gomani without ensuring that there was a viable route from Pai, especially since the existing road conditions make it nearly impassable. He emphasized that such decisions must be fair and transparent, insisting that the truth regarding project allocations and their implications must always be upheld. This call for accountability reflects his commitment to responsible governance.
In light of these concerns, Wike announced his plans to seek a virement of funds to address the urgent need for constructing the road from A2 to Pai. By taking this proactive approach, he aims to resolve the infrastructure challenges facing the FCT and ensure that the communities benefit from improved connectivity. This initiative underscores his dedication to serving the public and addressing their needs effectively.
Earlier in the event, Mr. Danladi Chiya, the Chairman of the Kwali Area Council, took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Minister Wike for the support he has provided to the area councils in terms of infrastructural development. This acknowledgment highlights the collaborative efforts between the minister and local leaders, showcasing a united front in striving for progress and development within the FCT.
Additionally, Senator David Jimkuta, a member of the Senate Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, weighed in on the importance of the road project. He remarked that once completed, the road would serve as a vital link, connecting the area councils to the city center. This enhanced connectivity is expected to promote not only economic growth but also greater access to services, thereby improving the quality of life for residents in the region. The collective efforts of the government and local authorities signal a promising future for infrastructure development in the FCT.
