The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have joined forces to tackle issues related to aviation in a new committee.
This committee was officially started at a meeting on Wednesday, which took place at the NAICOM Office in Abuja. During this meeting, a group from the NCAA, headed by Mrs. Dorcas Rominiyi, who is the Deputy General Manager for Financial Health and Aviation Insurance, visited NAICOM to kick off this collaboration.
Olusegun Omosehin, the Commissioner for Insurance and CEO of NAICOM, was represented at the meeting by Dr. Usman Jankara, the Deputy Commissioner for Technical matters. Dr. Jankara mentioned that one of NAICOM’s main jobs is to oversee and regulate what happens within the insurance industry and to protect the interests of the people who buy insurance policies, known as policyholders.
According to a statement from NAICOM, the main goal of this new joint committee is to reinforce NAICOM’s commitment to ensuring the safety and rights of policyholders, particularly in the aviation sector.

The committee has a range of responsibilities. These include checking and verifying the insurance documents of airlines and their related agencies, giving technical support to the NCAA on insurance issues, and helping resolve any complaints from airlines about their insurance coverage. The committee plans to hold regular meetings to discuss these topics.
Additionally, they will provide training and awareness programs related to aviation insurance for the staff of NCAA and NAICOM as well as their partners. They will also review the basic insurance coverage that all aviation operators and service providers need to maintain. This involves meeting regularly with airlines and insurance companies to ensure everyone is following the rules.
Mrs. Rominiyi, speaking for the NCAA team, promised to fully dedicate herself and her colleagues to their duties, making every effort to achieve the goals set by the committee. Their commitment shows how important it is for these organizations to work together to ensure that everything runs smoothly in the aviation industry, especially when it comes to insurance and protecting policyholder interests.
