The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has achieved an impressive score of 76.5% in a recent evaluation of ethical and integrity practices conducted by an independent government body known as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). This score indicates that NAMA has been largely following the rules and standards expected of federal agencies regarding honesty and integrity.
In a letter dated February 6, 2025, the ICPC explained that after reviewing the documents and practices of various government agencies, NAMA earned a score of 76.5%. This score means that the agency has shown a strong commitment to being ethical, although it also noted that there are areas where improvements can be made, as indicated by the absence of a score in the ACTU Effectiveness Index (AEI).

Umar Ahmed Farouk, the Managing Director of NAMA, expressed his appreciation for this recognition from the ICPC, which serves as a watchdog against corruption and unethical behavior in the public sector. He emphasized NAMA’s dedication to transparency—making information clear and accessible—and accountability—being responsible for actions and decisions.
Farouk stated, “We are thankful for this acknowledgment from the ICPC. At NAMA, we strive to follow professional standards in all our operations and maintain transparency. Safety is our top priority, and we have a strict policy against corruption.”
He also mentioned that this positive evaluation not only reinforces NAMA’s commitment to improve its reputation for integrity but also aligns it with international standards for aviation. Specifically, NAMA is working to meet the Key Performance Indicators established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), an international body that sets standards for aviation safety and security.
The score of 76.5% reflects how committed NAMA is to upholding ethical standards as it serves the public. Looking ahead, NAMA plans to enhance its practices related to compliance and accountability, ensuring that it maintains high ethical standards in everything it does.
The ICPC created the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard back in 2019 to promote transparency, integrity, and accountability among public institutions. This annual assessment evaluates how well agencies adhere to financial regulations and deliver services efficiently.
