“Nigeria has no future plans for you,” says Tems’ manager, Awoniyi, addressing the youth.

Muyiwa Awoniyi, the manager of Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, has issued a cautionary message to the youth regarding their expectations from the government. He emphasized that the government currently has no plans or initiatives in place to support or uplift its citizens. In a statement shared on his X handle, Awoniyi declared, “Nigeria has no plans for you,” which has ignited a lively debate among social media users.

The response to Awoniyi’s statement has been mixed. While many individuals resonate with his perspective, acknowledging the government’s shortcomings, others argue that it is misguided to solely rely on the government for progress. They suggest that instead of waiting for governmental action, citizens should actively participate in nation-building efforts.

In a related context, fellow artist Rema recently expressed his concerns about the prevailing sentiment among the youth in Nigeria. In an interview, he lamented that many young people have become disillusioned and have given up hope due to the multitude of challenges facing the country, including economic instability and social issues. Rema urged the youth not to lose faith in Nigeria, emphasizing that the responsibility of nation-building lies with both the citizens and the government.

He reaffirmed his commitment to contributing positively to the nation’s development, stating that he will continue to do his best in fostering growth and progress for Nigeria. This sentiment highlights the importance of collaboration between the government and its citizens in addressing the pressing issues that the country faces.

As discussions continue around Awoniyi’s comments and Rema’s call to action, it becomes clear that many in the Nigerian youth are seeking ways to engage constructively in shaping their future, despite the challenges they encounter.
