The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, often referred to as NiMet, has shared its weather predictions for the upcoming three days, from Wednesday to Friday.
From their forecast released on Tuesday in Abuja, they expect the weather to be generally sunny with some haziness across the country. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect in different regions:
- Northern Region: On Wednesday, there will be moderate dust haze, which is a situation where dust in the air reduces visibility. People here might only be able to see up to 1,000 meters ahead. This means the air will look a bit foggy due to the dust. On Thursday, the dust haze will continue, and visibility will still be around the same level. By Friday, the dusty conditions will persist, so residents should prepare for similar weather throughout the week.
- North Central Region: This area will also experience some dust haze but slightly less than the northern states. This moderate haziness will be present all three days, affecting how clear the skies are.
- Southern Region: In the south, the weather will be quite different. People can expect bright and sunny skies, but it won’t be completely clear. There will be some haziness and possibly patches of clouds. Early in the mornings, there might be some mist, but it should clear up as the day progresses. However, during the afternoons and evenings, areas like Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States could experience some thunderstorms and light rain.

NiMet has advised everyone to take precautions due to the dust in the air, especially those who suffer from respiratory issues like asthma. The agency suggests staying indoors if possible and following any health guidelines provided by health authorities.
Moreover, for those involved in air travel, NiMet recommends that airline operators check their specific weather reports to ensure safe and effective flight planning during this period of hazy weather.
