The Kano Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has officially announced the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as the victor of the Local Government elections across all 44 council areas. This significant declaration was made by the Chairman of the Commission, Professor Sani Lawan Malunfashi, during a press conference held at the commission’s headquarters in Kano.
Professor Malunfashi emphasized that KANSIEC had diligently fulfilled its constitutional responsibilities, which include planning, organizing, coordinating, observing, and conducting the Local Government elections in Kano State, Nigeria. This thorough approach ensured that the electoral process was carried out effectively and transparently.
The Commission reported that the electoral exercise was largely peaceful and successful in all aspects. This achievement reflects the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders who played crucial roles throughout the process. The Commission expressed deep appreciation for the contributions of security agencies, media organizations, political party leaders, civil society groups, religious figures, community leaders, and youth and women organizations.

A total of six political parties participated in the elections, namely: AA, AAC, ACCORD, ADC, APM, and NNPP. The NNPP emerged triumphant, winning all 44 Local Government Chairmanship positions as well as 484 Councillorship positions that were contested.
This overwhelming victory for the NNPP signifies a strong mandate from the electorate, reinforcing the party’s influence in the region. It also highlights the need for continued engagement with the community to uphold democratic values and address local governance issues.
