NSIB and Reps will investigate the helicopter crash

Captain Alex Badeh Jr., the Director General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), along with Hon. Abiodun Akinlade, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation and Aerospace Technology, recently visited the site of the Sikorsky SK76 helicopter accident, identified by registration number 5N BQG. Their visit aimed to monitor the ongoing recovery and investigation efforts.

Both officials emphasized the government’s dedication to conducting a transparent and thorough inquiry into the incident, highlighting the importance of improving transport safety across Nigeria. This commitment reflects a broader goal to enhance aviation standards and ensure the safety of all travelers.

The helicopter, operated by Eastwind Aviation, went down off the coast of Bonny Finima on October 24, 2024, while carrying eight individuals. In the wake of the accident, the NSIB has been actively coordinating a search and recovery mission, working alongside both local and international partners to locate the wreckage.

Since the incident, the NSIB has focused on examining the circumstances surrounding the crash, aiming to gather crucial information that could prevent future occurrences. The collaboration with various partners has been vital in facilitating a comprehensive recovery operation.

During their visit, Captain Badeh Jr. and Hon. Akinlade received detailed updates from the multidisciplinary search and recovery team, who have been diligently working on the ground. The officials were informed about the progress made in recovering the wreckage and the ongoing investigative procedures.
