The decline of X (formerly known as Twitter) since Elon Musk took over has led many users to explore new social media platforms like Bluesky, Threads, and Mastodon. However, this influx of options has made it harder for early users because they now have too many places to post updates. To help with this, some app developers are creating tools that allow users to post the same content on several platforms at once. One such app, Openvibe, recently added support for Threads, a competitor to X created by Instagram.
Openvibe launched earlier this summer and lets users connect with friends and followers across different platforms like Mastodon, Nostr, and Bluesky. It combines posts from these networks into one feed and allows for easy cross-posting to all of them at the same time.
This functionality is similar to an older app called Trillian, which allowed users to chat across various instant messaging services like AIM, ICQ, and Yahoo! Messenger all in one place. According to Openvibe’s CEO, Matej Svancer, their goal is to create an “easy-to-use gateway” for navigating the various social networks, which are built on different technologies.
While there are some other tools that connect these various networks, they can be complicated to set up and use. Svancer believes that having a simple app for cross-posting will make it easier for new users to join these alternative social media platforms.

With the new Threads feature, which is available on both iOS and Android, users can now log in to their accounts and share posts on Threads, Mastodon, Bluesky, and Nostr all at the same time. They can also follow users across these networks from a single feed and get suggestions for who to follow.
Although some users have had minor issues with getting Threads to work properly, Openvibe provides troubleshooting information to help resolve these problems. The app has also released updates to improve user experience and will eventually introduce a subscription plan, although it currently remains free and ad-free.
Openvibe is not the only app aiming to solve the challenge of managing multiple social media accounts. Other alternatives, such as Croissant, also support cross-posting to these new networks, but they already charge a monthly fee for similar features.
