Opinions on AI will Guide New Telecom Services.

Telecom

Public opinions about artificial intelligence (AI) are set to play a significant role in shaping the future of telecommunication services on the Isle of Man, as highlighted by Manx Telecom, one of the island’s largest service providers.

To gather valuable insights, Manx Telecom has commissioned a comprehensive survey aimed at understanding the level of preparedness, usage, and awareness of AI technology among both individuals and businesses in the area. This questionnaire focuses on how AI is being utilized in various contexts, including personal and professional settings.

Kate Hegarty, the head of marketing at Manx Telecom, emphasized the importance of these insights in meeting the “evolving needs” of the local community. She stated that understanding how people perceive and interact with AI will enable the company to tailor its services accordingly, ensuring they are relevant and effective in addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by this rapidly advancing technology.

In conjunction with Manx Telecom’s efforts, the Isle of Man government has also launched a program aimed at upskilling the community in AI usage. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to leverage AI technology for economic growth, with an ambitious goal of increasing the island’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 10% by 2030. By enhancing the community’s understanding and application of AI, the government hopes to foster innovation and improve competitiveness in various sectors.

The survey and government program represent a proactive approach to integrating AI into everyday life on the Isle of Man, ensuring that residents and businesses are equipped to navigate the changing technological landscape. As AI continues to evolve, the input from the community will be crucial in developing telecommunication services that meet their needs and contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of the island.

‘Relevant technologies’

As AI continues to “transform industries and everyday life,” it’s “essential to understand how our community views and engages with this technology,” stated Ms. Hegarty.

The survey not only addresses how people perceive the opportunities and challenges related to AI development but also assesses how prepared both businesses and individuals are to incorporate this technology into their workplaces.

Ms. Hegarty mentioned that the feedback gathered from the survey will be reviewed at a senior level within the company and discussed with its partners to ensure that “more relevant technologies are made available” in the near future. The insights gained will also help shape a future “roadmap of products,” she added.

Conducted by Island Global Research, the survey is accessible online until October 9.
