President Bola Tinubu has officially enacted the Judicial Office Holders Salaries and Allowances Bill. This significant development was announced by the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Senator Basheer Lado, in a statement made in Abuja on Tuesday.
The National Assembly had previously approved the bill in June, which introduces a substantial 300 percent increase in salaries for judicial officers at both federal and state levels. This move aims to enhance the financial compensation of those serving in the judiciary.
The legislation emerged following the consideration and adoption of an executive bill submitted by the President. This bill sought to establish improved salaries, allowances, and additional benefits for judicial officers and their support staff.
The executive bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Prescribe the Salaries, Allowances and Fringe Benefits of Judicial Office Holders in Nigeria and for Related Matters,” reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring fair compensation for those in the judicial system.

According to Senator Lado, this extraordinary decision highlights President Tinubu’s dedication to prioritizing the welfare of Nigerian workers. This commitment is evident in his recent actions, including postponing a Federal Executive Council meeting to sign the new National Minimum Wage Bill of N70,000.
The new law aims to align the salaries and benefits of Judicial Officers with contemporary realities. It also seeks to amend existing legislation to remove outdated provisions that no longer serve the current needs of the judiciary.
Among the key features of the Act are the establishment of salaries, allowances, and various benefits specifically for Judicial Officers. This comprehensive approach is designed to ensure that those in the judiciary are adequately compensated for their crucial roles.
Moreover, the amendment to the Certain Political, Public, and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) Act, No.6, 2002 (as amended) will eliminate provisions related to Judicial Office Holders, thereby streamlining the legal framework governing their compensation.
Senator Lado characterized the signing of this bill as a landmark achievement, emphasizing President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of Nigeria’s workforce and ensuring that judicial officers receive the recognition and support they deserve.
