Prophet shot dead within Ogun Celestial church

On Sunday, a tragic incident unfolded at a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Idiroko, located in the Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State. Gunmen invaded the church during a service, leading to the shocking death of a 54-year-old Prophet named Yomi Adetula.

Witnesses reported that the attack occurred around 10:30 am as congregants gathered for worship. The atmosphere turned chaotic when the assailants, numbering three, stormed the CCC Eagle Parish situated along Baggage Road, Odo Eran, and began firing indiscriminately.

Prophet Adetula appeared to be the primary target of the attackers. Eyewitnesses described how the gunmen shot at him, inflicting fatal wounds. In a brutal act of violence, they also used an axe to severely injure his head, further heightening the horror of the scene.

The attack sent shockwaves through the local community, leaving congregants in disbelief and fear. Many fled the church in panic, seeking safety from the unfolding violence. The incident has raised concerns about security in places of worship, particularly in regions experiencing rising crime rates.

Following the attack, the police were alerted and responded to the scene. Police Spokesman Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident in a statement released on Sunday afternoon. Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack and the identities of the assailants.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, prompting speculation and concern among local residents. Community leaders are calling for increased security measures to protect places of worship and ensure the safety of congregants.

As the investigation continues, the tragic loss of Prophet Yomi Adetula has left a profound impact on his congregation and the broader community. Many are mourning the senseless violence that took a life dedicated to serving others.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by communities in maintaining safety and security, particularly in sacred spaces where individuals gather for peace and worship.
