Qing Madi and Ayra Starr are set to perform at CANEX WKND in Algeria.

Nigerian singer Chimamanda Pearl Chukwuma, widely known as Qing Madi, is set to captivate audiences at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Creative Africa Nexus Weekend (CANEX WKND) in Algeria.

CANEX WKND is a premier event that highlights Africa’s dynamic creative and cultural industries. This year’s event will take place in Algiers from October 16 to 19, 2024.

The opening day will feature live performances from Madi, L’Opera d’Alger, Ofentse Pitse and Orchestra, Ghetto Kids, Sofiya Nzau, Qabaniso Molewezi, Xenson, Samira Brahmia, and Djamal Laroussi.

According to a statement from the organizers on Thursday, Madi is being celebrated as an “embodiment of the spirit of creative fusion” that the Creative Africa Nexus Weekend (CANEX WKND) aims to promote. Her unique artistry encapsulates the essence of the event, which seeks to highlight the rich cultural tapestry of Africa.

Madi’s music is known for its ability to blend traditional African styles with global influences. This fusion not only showcases her versatility but also aligns perfectly with the event’s overarching theme: ‘One People, United in Culture, Creating for the World.’ This theme emphasizes the importance of cultural unity and collaboration across borders.

Her upcoming performance is anticipated to be a vibrant showcase of the diverse rhythms and influences found within African music. Attendees can expect an exhilarating experience that highlights the richness of the continent’s musical heritage.

In addition to Madi, fellow Nigerian singer Ayra Starr will also grace the stage at CANEX WKND. She is scheduled to perform on October 17, adding to the lineup of talented artists representing Africa’s dynamic creative scene.

Together, these performances will contribute to the celebration of African culture and creativity, making CANEX WKND an unmissable event for music lovers and cultural enthusiasts alike.

Joining the lineup of performers are South Africa’s Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa, renowned for producing the 2019 Amapiano album ‘Scorpion Kings.’

In addition to the musical performances, the event will feature a variety of activities. Attendees can look forward to masterclasses covering topics such as innovative financing, sports entrepreneurship, culinary innovation, and visual arts.

The CANEX Music Factory, hosted by renowned South African producer Oskido, will serve as a platform for singers, beatmakers, and musicians to record new songs, with the possibility of being included in the event’s upcoming release.

Attendees can also look forward to the Exhibition & Market and Fashion Show, which will highlight the latest trends in African design and fashion. The Gastronomy section promises to delight food enthusiasts with an array of delicious African cuisine.

To celebrate literary talent and emerging filmmakers, the CANEX Book Factory Prize and CANEX Shorts Awards will be presented, honoring excellence in both fields.

In addition, the event will showcase initiatives such as The MANSA Digital Initiative, the Nigerian International Film Summit, Beyond the Scoreboard, Gastronomy Masterclasses, and the Zuma Film Festival Presentation by the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC), among other engaging activities.

Registration for CANEX WKND 2024 is free, but pre-registration is essential to ensure participation. International delegates are advised to register by September 30 to facilitate visa arrangements.
