Rep Bichi sends 21 constituents to Malaysia on scholarships

Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, a prominent member of the House of Representatives, represents the Bichi Federal Constituency in Kano State. He also serves as the chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation. Recently, he announced the provision of scholarships for 21 constituents to study in Malaysia, showcasing his commitment to education and empowerment.

The selected beneficiaries will engage in an 18-month academic programme at Universiti Technologi Malaysia (UTM). This institution is recognized as one of the top universities in Malaysia, offering courses in Engineering, Computing Science, Technology, and other fields. The opportunity aims to enhance the educational prospects of the students.

On Wednesday, all scholarship recipients were presented with their admission letters and essential materials in a ceremony held in Bichi. This initiative reflects Hon. Bichi’s dedication to supporting the educational aspirations of his constituents and fostering academic excellence.

In addition to the scholarships, the lawmaker has also sponsored 59 students in science and technical disciplines, ranging from SS1 to SSS 3. These students received educational kits to aid their studies, further demonstrating his commitment to improving educational resources in the area.

Moreover, Hon. Bichi has taken significant steps to bolster local education by recruiting 150 temporary classroom teachers and 50 Islamiyya teachers. This recruitment aims to address the teaching needs in various schools throughout the local government, ensuring that students receive quality education.

He has also approved salary increments for the first batch of 106 teachers, which underscores his commitment to valuing and supporting educators. By enhancing teacher compensation, he aims to attract and retain quality educators in the region.

During the event, Hon. Bichi emphasized the importance of keeping promises made to the community. He stated, “Two years back, we made this promise of sponsoring indigenes of Bichi Local Government. We have kept to our promise.” This statement reflects his dedication to fulfilling commitments made to his constituents.

He further clarified that the selection of the scholarship candidates was based solely on merit, asserting that none of the beneficiaries are his relatives. Each candidate underwent a rigorous screening process, which he believes is crucial for maintaining fairness and transparency.

Hon. Bichi advocates for empowering individuals based on their abilities rather than political affiliations. He expressed a desire to avoid politicizing education, emphasizing the need for equitable opportunities for all students in the region.

Finally, he remarked on the educational disparities between different regions of the country, noting that the southern part is often ahead academically. However, he highlighted that crime rates in Bichi Local Government have significantly decreased due to increased educational opportunities, reinforcing his commitment to sponsoring students and fostering a brighter future for the community.
