Scout Motors has decided to sell electric vehicles (EVs) directly to customers without going through traditional car dealerships, but this has led to some legal complications.
Recently, a group of dealers who sell Volkswagen and Audi cars filed a lawsuit against Scout Motors in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court in Miami-Dade County. They are trying to stop Scout from selling its vehicles directly to consumers. This legal battle is not new; for a long time, car dealerships have been pushing back against new companies, especially electric vehicle makers like Tesla, who prefer to sell their cars directly without using dealerships. While they have had mixed success in the past, the latest focus is now on Scout Motors, which plans to start making electric vehicles in 2027.
In December 2024, the California New Car Dealers Association sent a letter to Volkswagen and Scout Motors, telling them to stop their direct sales because it goes against state laws. Dealership groups in other states, including Florida, are also trying to prevent Scout from using this direct sales approach.
