Seyi Tinubu is not qualified to govern Lagos – Joe Igbokwe

Joe Igbokwe, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed his doubts regarding Seyi Tinubu’s capability to serve as the governor of Lagos state. Igbokwe’s remarks come in light of the recent endorsement of Seyi by the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), a collective representing various youth groups across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. This endorsement is aimed at supporting Seyi’s candidacy for the 2027 gubernatorial election in Lagos.

Despite the backing from CONYL, Igbokwe took to Facebook to voice his criticism of the youth groups for their support of the president’s son. He described the situation as a distraction and suggested that it could be an orchestrated effort to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Igbokwe’s comments reflect a broader concern within the APC about the implications of Seyi’s candidacy.

Igbokwe emphasized that leading a state as significant as Lagos is not a task suited for inexperienced individuals. He articulated that the responsibilities of governance require maturity and experience, which he believes Seyi lacks. This assertion raises questions about the qualifications necessary for such a pivotal role in one of Nigeria’s most important states.

In his post, Igbokwe questioned the motives behind the support for Seyi Tinubu, referring to those advocating for his candidacy as “faceless people.” This choice of words suggests a skepticism about the authenticity of the grassroots support for Seyi, implying that it may not represent the true sentiments of the public.

He further argued that the push for Seyi’s candidacy is a “needless distraction” from the pressing issues facing Lagos and the nation as a whole. Igbokwe’s comments reflect a concern that such distractions could detract from the focus on governance and the challenges that need to be addressed by the current administration.

Additionally, Igbokwe pointed out that the ultimate goal of these efforts might be to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. He urged that the president should be allowed to concentrate on his demanding responsibilities without the added pressure of political distractions. This sentiment underscores the tensions within the APC regarding the future leadership of Lagos.

Igbokwe’s remarks resonate with a faction of the APC that prioritizes experience and proven leadership in governance. His stance reflects a belief that the complexities of governing a state like Lagos should not be taken lightly and requires seasoned individuals who can navigate its challenges effectively.

In conclusion, the discourse surrounding Seyi Tinubu’s potential candidacy is indicative of broader political dynamics within the APC. As the 2027 gubernatorial election approaches, the party will need to address these internal disagreements and consider the implications of their endorsements and candidate selections for the future of Lagos state.
