Pop star Shakira has been hospitalized in Peru due to a stomach issue, leading her to cancel her Sunday concert in the Andean nation. The Colombian singer shared this news on social media.
“I regret to inform you that I had to visit the emergency room last night for an abdominal issue, and I am currently hospitalized. The doctors have advised me that I am not well enough to perform tonight,” she wrote.
Shakira arrived in Lima on Saturday, marking her first performance there in over a decade. Videos shared on her account showed hundreds of fans welcoming her at the airport.
“I hope to feel better by tomorrow and be discharged from the hospital as soon as possible so I can deliver the show I’ve prepared for all of you,” Shakira added in her post.
Known for hits like “La Tortura” with Alejandro Sanz and her 2023 diss track against ex-partner Gerard Piqué, produced by Argentine DJ Bizarrap, Shakira is recognized as a pioneer for Latin artists breaking into the English-speaking market. Her most famous song, “Hips Don’t Lie,” featuring Wyclef Jean, showcases her signature dance moves.
Reports indicate that her next concert in Lima is scheduled for Monday. She began her tour last week in Brazil.
