Sokoto Governor Vows Free and Fair Local Elections.

Sokoto Governor Vows Free and Fair Local Elections.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu has expressed his administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a free, fair, and credible local government election in Sokoto State, scheduled for September 21, 2024. He made this declaration as the election approaches, emphasizing the importance of integrity in the electoral process across all 23 local government areas.

During a recent address to a large gathering of APC supporters from eight local governments in the Sokoto East Senatorial Zone, Aliyu urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to reconsider its decision to boycott the upcoming elections. The event took place in Goronyo, marking the official launch of the APC campaign for the local government elections.

Aliyu pointed out that the current leadership of the Sokoto Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) was appointed during the previous PDP administration, and he has maintained that structure without any changes. He questioned the PDP’s reluctance to participate in the elections organized by the SIEC, suggesting that their fears were unfounded.

To reassure the opposition, Aliyu stated that he had met with the Chairman of SIEC, who confirmed that the elections would be conducted transparently. He emphasized that the commission would declare the rightful winner, regardless of political affiliation.

The governor called on the residents of Sokoto State to actively participate in the electoral process by voting for APC candidates. He highlighted the significance of their support in ensuring the continuation of development projects that benefit the community.

Aliyu also pointed out the achievements of his administration, stating that it has made significant strides in various sectors of development. He mentioned initiatives aimed at supporting farmers, including the provision of free fertilizers, pesticides, and other essential agricultural inputs to enhance production.

In addition, Aliyu noted the installation of solar-powered streetlights and the construction of numerous roads as part of the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure and the overall quality of life for residents in Sokoto State.
