Sokoto State Governor Signs N526.9 Billion 2025 Appropriation Bill into Law

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has signed the N526.9 billion 2025 appropriation bill into law, marking a significant step toward the state’s development agenda. The budget, which was approved by the Sokoto State House of Assembly, focuses on critical areas such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure development. This financial blueprint underscores the government’s commitment to addressing pressing socio-economic challenges in the state.

The 2025 budget, referred to as the “Budget of Sustainable Development,” allocates a substantial portion of funds to capital projects. Over 60% of the budget is directed towards infrastructure, including road construction, water supply projects, and the rehabilitation of public buildings. The remaining 40% is reserved for recurrent expenditures, such as salaries, pensions, and operational costs of government ministries and agencies. This distribution reflects the state’s focus on fostering long-term growth while maintaining operational efficiency.

Education remains a top priority in the 2025 budget, with significant investments aimed at improving access and quality. The Sokoto State government plans to build and renovate schools, recruit more teachers, and provide scholarships to students pursuing higher education. This aligns with the broader national goals of achieving universal basic education, as outlined by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC). These efforts are expected to boost literacy rates and equip young people with skills for the future.

Healthcare is another critical focus, with allocations for building and upgrading healthcare facilities across Sokoto State. The budget includes funding for the procurement of medical equipment, training of healthcare workers, and implementation of public health programs. These measures are designed to enhance the state’s capacity to deliver quality healthcare services, especially in rural and underserved areas. Partnerships with organizations like the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) are also being explored to ensure the effective delivery of health interventions.

Governor Aliyu expressed optimism that the budget would pave the way for sustainable economic growth and improved living standards for the people of Sokoto State. He urged citizens to support government initiatives and hold leaders accountable for the proper implementation of the budget. As Sokoto embarks on its 2025 development plan, the focus on infrastructure, education, and healthcare positions the state for long-term progress.
