Steer Clear of These Two Ingredients When Cooking Beans: They Can Harm Your Liver

Beans are among the most beloved foods in Africa, enjoyed in various forms by many. Mothers often pair them with other staples like custard, pap, rice, yam, plantain, and potatoes. Rich in protein, beans are a nutritious choice for both young and old alike.

In Africa, many people believe that eating beans can promote height growth, as they are considered a bodybuilding food.

It’s common knowledge that cooking beans takes longer than preparing other foods like rice, yam, or potatoes. This has led many Africans to seek faster cooking methods to save energy and fuel. However, some of these techniques can be harmful to the body and may damage vital organs.

Many individuals have added various ingredients to speed up the cooking process, but many of these can be harmful and lead to serious health issues. It’s important to be patient when cooking beans and to stick to traditional methods. This approach will help maintain healthy eating habits.

I’ve noticed that many Nigerians use substances like paracetamol and potash to save time and fuel while cooking. If you’re among those doing this, it’s crucial to stop immediately.

Those who cook with harmful ingredients are not only damaging their own organs gradually but also endangering the health of those who consume their meals. This includes people dining in canteens, local eateries, and even husbands and children who eat meals prepared by their mothers or wives using these dangerous substances.

Potash and paracetamol are commonly used by some Nigerians in cooking, but they can pose serious risks to your health. While potash is sometimes added to enhance the taste or texture of food, and paracetamol is a widely used painkiller, when paracetamol is heated, its chemical composition can become toxic, which can harm your liver—a vital organ in the body. A damaged liver may not be able to properly neutralize the harmful effects of excess salt, further compromising your health.

Both potash and paracetamol are harmful chemical substances. Paracetamol, though beneficial in its intended form when taken correctly, becomes dangerous when exposed to heat during cooking. Sadly, these aren’t the only risky practices; there are other harmful substances used in cooking that endanger health. For instance, some people use detergents to boil eggs, which is extremely dangerous. If eggs are cracked and come into contact with these chemicals, consuming them can lead to serious health complications. It’s crucial to take proper care of vital organs like the liver, kidneys, heart, and blood.

Improper cooking methods have already caused many to lose their lives or suffer from various health issues. To avoid these dangers, it’s best to use a pressure cooker, as it helps to prepare food quickly, saving both time and energy while ensuring the food is cooked safely. If a pressure cooker isn’t available, simply be patient and allow your food to cook thoroughly, avoiding the use of harmful substances that can put your health at risk.

My dear, instead of harming yourself with these dangerous ingredients, consider cooking with healthier alternatives. For example, you can use onions in place of potash and paracetamol. Onions not only cook food faster but also offer nutritional benefits that support your body’s health.

Remember, ignorance can be deadly. Don’t risk your life for the sake of convenience or tradition. Life is too precious and short to put your health in danger. Choose to live well and enjoy the rewards of your hard work. Stay safe, stay healthy, and make the most of every moment!
