Stop criticizing Badaru for engaging with the opposition

A political support group known as the G7 Progressive Youths has come to the defense of the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, amid accusations that he has been collaborating with members of opposition parties in the North. This criticism has primarily come from the APC Solidarity Vanguard, which is chaired by Alhaji Salisu Yakubu.

The APC Solidarity Vanguard claims that Badaru’s ongoing interactions with opposition figures in Jigawa State are detrimental to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and suggest that these actions make him unfit for such an important role as Minister of Defence. They argue that his engagements could weaken the party’s position.

In contrast, the G7 Progressive Youths assert that collaboration with opposition parties is essential for tackling the significant security issues facing the nation. They believe that working together across political lines can lead to more effective solutions.

In a statement released on Sunday, the group’s Secretary-General, Agbabiaka ‘Kunle Ahmed, praised Badaru for promoting inclusivity and cooperative efforts in fulfilling the duties associated with his ministry. He highlighted the importance of unity in addressing security challenges.

Ahmed stressed that addressing insecurity is a collective responsibility that requires the involvement of all Nigerians, irrespective of their political affiliations. He emphasized that a unified approach is crucial for effective governance and security.

Furthermore, Ahmed pointed out that President Tinubu has demonstrated a commitment to inclusivity by appointing capable individuals from opposition parties to his cabinet. This action reflects a broader spirit of national unity and collaboration.

He noted that President Tinubu has consistently engaged with opposition figures who are willing to contribute positively to the country’s progress. This collaboration includes prominent individuals like Daniel Bwala, Doyin Okupe, and Reno Omokri, who have become key supporters of the administration.

Additionally, Ahmed mentioned the inclusion of notable figures such as Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu from the APGA and Nyesom Wike, the current FCT minister from the PDP, in President Tinubu’s cabinet. This further illustrates the government’s commitment to fostering unity among different political factions.

In closing, Ahmed highlighted how Badaru’s outreach efforts have previously strengthened the APC by attracting three sitting opposition governors and numerous stakeholders. These efforts have significantly contributed to President Tinubu’s electoral success, showcasing the importance of collaboration in politics.
