SUNU Group Credits 2024 Success To Founder’s Legacy

The SUNU Group, which is the parent company of SUNU Assurances Nigeria, has stated that its good performance on the Nigeria Exchange Limited in 2024 is largely due to the influence and legacy left by its late founder, Mr. Pathé Dione.

On Wednesday in Lagos, the Managing Director of SUNU Assurances Nigeria, Mr. Samuel Ogbodu, spoke about this during a ceremony marking two years since the founder passed away in 2023.

According to a report by DANDALI, SUNU Assurances has had a remarkable year, with its stock price increasing by an impressive 581 percent as of December 20. This strong performance has made the company not only the best performing stock in the insurance sector but also the second-best performing stock overall on the local stock exchange.

To honor Mr. Dione, the SUNU Group held religious ceremonies in all 17 countries where it operates, such as the Republic of Benin, Burkina Faso, and Cameroon. These events acted as heartfelt tributes, reminding everyone of Mr. Dione’s lasting legacy and his strong commitment to the development of Africa.

Mr. Ogbodu emphasized how Mr. Dione’s influence remains an integral part of the identity of the SUNU Group. He expressed a dedication to preserving the founder’s memory by continuing to build upon the strong foundations that he established and pursuing the ambitious goals that Mr. Dione had envisioned for the company.

He further explained that prior to his passing, Mr. Dione had implemented a solid governance structure, ensuring that the company could continue to thrive without him. In fact, Ogbodu pointed out that the company performed even better after Mr. Dione’s passing, stating that last year they experienced significant growth on the stock exchange. This positive performance is attributed to the team’s belief in the founder’s vision and their dedication to making him proud through their work. Ogbodu highlighted that Mr. Dione had provided opportunities for career development, motivating the employees to honor his legacy.

In Nigeria, the commemorative events included a Koranic reading at the NTA mosque in Victoria Island, Lagos, and a Mass at the Divine Physician and St. Luke’s Catholic Chaplaincy in Idi-Araba, Lagos. These gatherings offered a chance for the SUNU Group family, employees, partners, and the public to come together in remembrance of Mr. Dione’s life and achievements.

During a tribute at one of the commemorative services, Dr. Patrick Korie, Managing Director of SUNU Health Nigeria Limited, praised the late founder, describing him as more than just a founder. He viewed Mr. Dione as a mentor and an inspiration, noting that Mr. Dione’s strong belief in African entrepreneurship and his commitment to social responsibility continue to motivate their work and inspire them to strive for excellence in all their endeavors.
