Tems has become a co-owner of an MLS club.

Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, has become a partner in the ownership group of MLS team San Diego FC.

SDFC announced today that Tems joined the ownership group through her company, The Leading Vibe, making her the first African woman to participate in MLS ownership.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tems as a club partner,” said SDFC chairman Sir Mohamed Mansour in a statement. “Tems is a globally influential artist who will help us connect with new audiences and promote our unique initiative, which is rooted in sub-Saharan Africa through the Right to Dream organization.”

Expressing her excitement about joining SDFC’s ownership group, Tems stated, “I am delighted to be part of San Diego FC and to support a club that values creativity, culture, and community. Football has a remarkable ability to unite people, and I look forward to helping create something special in San Diego, a city known for its diversity and innovation.”
