The army has destroyed 22 Lakurawa camps and killed members in Sokoto

Troops participating in Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully dismantled 22 camps associated with the Lakurawa group and have neutralized several of its members in Sokoto State. Additionally, they seized a significant amount of weapons and ammunition during these operations.

Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, the acting General Commanding Officer of the 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2 for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, shared this information while addressing the Special Brigade. This Brigade was deployed to combat the Lakurawa group in Sokoto and Kebbi states, following directives from the Chief of Defence Staff on Friday.

Prior to the Brigade’s deployment, troops from the 8 Division had already begun precursor and shaping operations in various forests and areas, including Rumji Dutse, Sarma, Tsauna, Bauni, Malgatawa, Gargao, and several villages such as Kaideji, Nakuru, and Dancha. These operations were crucial in establishing a strategic foothold against the insurgents.

The recent operation has resulted in the destruction of approximately 22 camps, the neutralization of numerous sect members, and the recovery of important military assets. Specifically, the troops recovered 4 rifles, 409 PKT 7.62mm NATO rounds, and an additional 94 special 7.62mm rounds.

Brigadier General Ajose emphasized that the deployment of the Brigade would provide additional support in countering the activities of the bandits and restoring peace to the affected communities in the North West region. This strategic move is intended to bolster ongoing efforts against insecurity in the area.

He further explained that the deployment aims to consolidate the successes achieved in the ongoing precursor operation, which is part of Operation FOREST SANITY III, titled “CHASE LAKURAWAS OUT.” This operation seeks to intensify efforts against the insurgents and bring stability back to the region.

In his address, he urged the troops to ensure the complete eradication of the Lakurawa sect. He stressed the importance of adhering to the established rules of engagement to protect the lives and properties of law-abiding citizens during these operations.

He concluded by stating that the Nigerian populace is counting on the troops’ capabilities and professionalism to effectively eliminate the Lakurawa group and other bandits that threaten the peace of their communities. The success of this mission is vital for restoring normalcy and security in the affected regions.
