The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) have expressed their support for the federal government’s decision to dismiss civil servants in ministries, departments, and agencies who possess fraudulent degrees from certain private universities in Benin Republic and Togo. In a statement signed by their chairman, Chukwudi Enekwechi, and secretary, Shedrach Sunday, the group stated that this action aligns with the anti-corruption stance of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
They lamented that many of the universities involved lack proper licensing or accreditation from their respective countries. The group condemned the actions of some Nigerians who falsely claim to have earned academic degrees and manipulate their way into the Nigerian civil service. They questioned the quality of service these individuals could provide in their roles, emphasizing that obtaining a legitimate degree should involve a thorough process recognized in the academic community.
TMV highlighted that dishonest Nigerians have sought to gain unfair advantages in public service by rushing to Benin Republic and Togo to obtain various fake degrees, sometimes within just six months to a year. They praised the government’s decision to terminate the employment of such degree holders, viewing it as part of President Tinubu’s broader strategy to combat corruption in all forms.
The group asserted that a government genuinely concerned about the quality of education and the future of the youth would confront the issue of fake university degrees head-on. They believe that the Tinubu administration’s actions are aimed at cleansing the educational system and ensuring that academic credentials undergo thorough verification and validation.

TMV warned that if this issue is not addressed, Nigeria could be overwhelmed with fraudulent academic qualifications, jeopardizing the Tinubu administration’s goal of transforming Nigeria into a one trillion dollar economy. They reiterated that achieving President Tinubu’s vision for a knowledge-driven civil service is essential for this economic aspiration. Additionally, they called on authorities to implement measures to penalize those involved in such fraudulent activities to prevent future occurrences.
