Nigeria’s power grid has experienced another collapse, marking the twelfth incident in 2024. This recurring issue continues to affect the country’s electricity supply and highlights ongoing challenges within the energy sector.
A recent check on the Independent System Operator (ISO) website, which operates under the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), revealed that all generation power plants connected to the grid were not producing electricity by 2 PM. This follows a brief period where they collectively contributed an average of 3,087 megawatts by 1 PM.
The situation has raised concerns among consumers and stakeholders who depend on a stable electricity supply for their daily activities and businesses. In response to the outage, the Jos Disco issued a statement confirming the collapse of the grid. They explained that the current power outage affecting their franchise states is a direct result of losing supply from the national grid.
The statement detailed that the loss of power occurred this afternoon at approximately 1:33 PM on Wednesday, December 11, 2024. This interruption has led to widespread power outages across all feeders managed by the Jos Disco.
