The Nigerian House of Representatives are Meeting With The Youth in Abuja

The Nigerian House of Representatives has convened an emergency session today, Wednesday, to address pressing national issues. This extraordinary meeting was announced at the beginning of the week, interrupting the annual recess that commenced on July 23, 2023.

The session comes just hours ahead of a planned protest by Nigerians concerned about the rising cost of living and economic pressures. The protesters aim to draw attention to the challenges facing the country and demand action from the government.

During today’s session, the House met with youth groups to hear their grievances and concerns. This meeting is seen as an effort to understand the perspectives of young Nigerians and ensure their voices are heard.

According to Muhammad Bello El Rufai, a Member of Parliament representing Kaduna Northern State, engaging with youth is crucial to understanding their concerns. He emphasized the importance of listening to their demands and working towards finding solutions.

El Rufai acknowledged the constitutional right to protest but stressed the need for peaceful demonstrations, citing violent examples in Kenya and Sudan. He emphasized that the goal is not to suppress expression but to ensure constructive dialogue and find ways to address the pressing issues facing the nation.
