The Nigerian Military Promises Fairness for Seaman Abbas Haruna.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has finally responded to the ongoing situation surrounding the extended detention of Seaman Abbas Haruna, a naval rating. Reports from DANDALI indicate that Haruna’s wife, Usaina Haruna, recently appeared on the Brekete Family show, where she accused the authorities of injustice against her husband, who was allegedly imprisoned for leaving a parade to pray.

The incident has sparked widespread public outrage and criticism directed at the military and the officers believed to be involved in Haruna’s persecution. A video of Usaina’s claims has gone viral, drawing attention to the perceived unfair treatment of her husband.

In a statement released early Monday, Tukur Gusau, the spokesman for the Nigerian military, acknowledged the circulating video that alleges Haruna has been unjustly incarcerated for six years. The DHQ emphasized its commitment to justice and fairness within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

Gusau reassured the public that the military court-martial process is thorough and designed to ensure fairness, equal opportunity, and adherence to established legal procedures. He highlighted that the military takes such allegations seriously and aims to maintain the rule of law.

In light of these claims, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has directed a prompt investigation into the circumstances surrounding Haruna’s case. The military aims to address the concerns raised by the public and ensure transparency throughout the process.

The DHQ has called on the general public to exercise caution and avoid disseminating unverified information while the investigation is underway. This appeal underscores the military’s commitment to a fair inquiry and the importance of accurate information in such sensitive matters.

Gusau, a brigadier-general, reiterated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will uphold its responsibilities to conduct a swift and transparent investigation. The DHQ aims to restore public trust and confidence in the military’s judicial processes.

As the investigation unfolds, the DHQ assures Nigerians that they will be kept informed about the findings and any necessary actions taken in response to this troubling situation.
