Three Killed in West Bank-Jordan Border Attack.

Three individuals have lost their lives in an attack at the border between Jordan and the occupied West Bank, as reported by Israeli officials. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the shooting occurred at the Allenby Bridge crossing, resulting in the deaths of three Israeli civilians. The assailant approached the area from the Jordanian side in a truck, exited the vehicle, and opened fire.

Security forces responded swiftly, neutralizing the gunman. Following this, the IDF began inspecting the truck for any potential explosives. Medics indicated that the three victims were men in their 50s, highlighting the tragic toll of this violent incident.

In response to the attack, Jordan has closed its side of the border and is conducting an investigation. The incident took place in an Israeli-controlled area where Jordanian vehicles typically offload goods destined for the West Bank. This crossing, also referred to as the King Hussein Bridge, serves as the only official entry point to the West Bank that does not involve passage through Israel.

The situation in the region has been increasingly tense, with the Palestinian health ministry reporting that over 600 Palestinians have been killed amid a surge in violence in the West Bank since Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7. This escalation has further strained relations and heightened security concerns.

Last week, Israeli forces withdrew from Jenin city and its refugee camp, a stronghold of militants in the West Bank that houses a civilian population of around 60,000. Israel asserts that its operations aim to curtail deadly Palestinian attacks on its citizens in both the West Bank and Israel, emphasizing its commitment to combating terrorism.
