Popular singer Timi Dakolo has recounted how he met his wife, Busola. The ‘Iyawo mi’ artist shared that their first encounter was at church. She wasn’t initially interested in pursuing a romantic relationship with him, but he remained determined.
He mentioned that she often felt embarrassed when he picked her up in the branded Picanto he had won during the inaugural season of Idols West Africa in 2007.
In a recent interview with Pulse, Dakolo stated, “I met my wife at church. I approached her and asked if she would accompany me to a ball. She gave me her number, but she wasn’t answering my calls. I kept visiting the area in hopes of seeing her again. Eventually, I ran into her and asked why she hadn’t been picking up my calls. She explained that her phone had been stolen.
“I felt sympathy for her, and we started to build a friendship. As my feelings for her grew, she attempted to friend-zone me, but I wouldn’t accept that. I worked hard to win her affection, driving her to and from work. At one point, she felt embarrassed when I picked her up in the branded Picanto from Nigerian Idols. I told her, ‘Don’t worry; I’ll surprise you. Don’t underestimate me.’ And I did.”
Timi married Busola in 2012, and they have welcomed three children together.
