Timi Dakolo reveals that he became a musician by chance.

Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has opened up about his unexpected journey to becoming a professional musician. In a recent episode of the ‘On The Record’ podcast, the artist known for his hit song “Great Nation” shared insights into how music initially started as a hobby for him rather than a career choice.

Dakolo reflected on his early experiences with music, noting that he used to sing in the choir and enjoyed it, but never envisioned it as a potential profession. He reminisced about the beginnings of his musical journey during morning devotion sessions and how he and his friends would write songs in notebooks, often motivated by a desire to impress girls.

It wasn’t until he won the inaugural season of Idols West Africa in 2007 that he began to consider pursuing music professionally. “I still see myself as an accidental musician,” he stated, emphasizing that his path to music was not planned.

He explained, “I said to myself, ‘Okay, we are here. Sometimes you meet your destiny on the road you take to avoid it.’” This realization marked a turning point in his life, leading him to embrace music as a career.

Dakolo’s story serves as an inspiring reminder that sometimes, opportunities arise in unexpected ways, and embracing them can lead to fulfilling paths in life. His candid reflections highlight the importance of being open to change and the possibility of discovering one’s true calling when least expected.
