President Bola Tinubu has stressed the urgent need for African countries to pursue peace and unity in order to achieve collective sustainable growth. He believes that the longstanding legacies of nepotism must be replaced with a commitment to unity and peace, which are crucial for the continent’s development.
During a dinner in Malabo, hosted by President Teodoro Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea, Tinubu urged leaders to take action. He emphasized that it is time to “roll up our sleeves” and work towards peace, stability, and progress. This event is part of his three-day official visit to the Central African nation.
In discussions prior to the dinner, Tinubu and Mbasogo signed agreements in various sectors, including petroleum and security. These agreements signify a collaborative effort to address critical issues facing the region.

At the dinner, Tinubu reiterated that Africa must take the lead in solving its own problems. He rejected the notion of relying on external influences, which often lead to conflict and instability. He stated, “We have to work together to make peace the focus of our development.”
Tinubu pointed out that the continent’s challenges are not due to a lack of understanding of what needs to be done. Instead, he highlighted the issues of timing and execution, asserting that the moment for action is now.
He also addressed the significant brain drain affecting Africa, attributing it to poverty, outdated judicial systems, and tribalism. He called on leaders to confront these underlying issues to promote development.
Finally, Tinubu declared that tribalism has no place in Africa’s future. He urged leaders to unite, leverage the continent’s resources for collective progress, and prioritize research and development as essential components of sustainable growth.
