Tinubu congratulates Zainab Bagudu on her election as president of the UICC

President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu on her recent election as President of the Union for International Cancer Control. This significant achievement marks a notable milestone in her career and for Nigeria as a whole.

Mrs. Shinkafi-Bagudu, a distinguished paediatrician and former First Lady of Kebbi State, was elected to this prestigious position on October 8. Her election is particularly historic as she becomes the first African and the fifth woman to lead this global organization focused on cancer control.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described her election as a remarkable accomplishment. He commended her competence and character, emphasizing the importance of her leadership in the health sector.

The President noted that her victory underscores Nigeria’s growing influence in global health leadership. It serves as a testament to the country’s wealth of talent and the capabilities of its citizens on the international stage.

President Tinubu also recalled Dr. Shinkafi-Bagudu’s invaluable contributions to Kebbi State and the nation, expressing gratitude for her dedicated service. He praised her efforts as Chairperson of the First Ladies Cancer Initiative, highlighting her commitment to improving cancer care in Nigeria.

Furthermore, he acknowledged her role in establishing the Kebbi State Strategic Plan for Cancer Control during her tenure as First Lady. This initiative has laid a solid foundation for addressing cancer-related challenges in the region.
