Tinubu Expresses Sorrow Over Hunger Protests’ Victims, Calls for an End to More Violence.

President Bola Tinubu expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests. He also sympathized with those who suffered property loss due to the activities and looting. Tinubu made these remarks on Sunday morning in Abuja during his nationwide address on the protests. He acknowledged the unrest and violent protests in some states with a heavy heart and a sense of responsibility.

He emphasized that the protesters, particularly the young Nigerians, were seeking a better and more progressive country where their aspirations could be realized. Tinubu expressed sorrow over the loss of lives in several states, destruction of public facilities, and widespread looting, which contradicted the organizers’ promise of peaceful protests.

Tinubu lamented that the destruction of properties sets the nation back, as resources will now be needed for restoration. He extended his sympathies to the families of those who died in the protests and emphasized the need to halt further bloodshed, violence, and destruction. As the President, he pledged to ensure public order and protect the lives and property of every citizen, vowing not to allow a few with political motives to divide the nation.

The 10-day planned protest, initially focused on the rising cost of living and hunger, spiraled into violence, property damage, and loss of lives across the country. At least 17 people were reported to have died during the protests.
