Tiwa Savage explains why she can’t sign artists.

Renowned Nigerian songstress Tiwa Savage has opened up about her decision not to sign emerging artists. In a recent interview with Forbes Africa, she candidly discussed the challenges she perceives in managing the behavior of up-and-coming talents.

At 45 years old, Tiwa emphasized that while many fans frequently inquire about her plans to sign new artists, she feels she lacks the necessary “gift” to handle the complexities and stresses that come with artist management. She expressed her concerns about the unpredictability of working with new talents, noting that they can often become embroiled in controversies that might overshadow their music.

Tiwa stated, “Everyone always asks when I’m going to sign an artist. I don’t think I have the gift to sign artists because they can be quite stressful. I could just wake up from sleep and find my artist trending for the wrong reasons.”

Instead of signing artists directly, Tiwa Savage has a vision to establish a music school aimed at nurturing and educating aspiring singers. She believes that this initiative would provide a structured environment where new talents can learn the ropes of the music industry, develop their skills, and ultimately be better prepared to secure contracts with reputable labels that can support their careers.

She elaborated, “But I have the gift to help, which is why I’m trying to create a music school where artists can go and later sign with a label that can truly assist them.”

Through this approach, Tiwa aims to contribute positively to the music industry by empowering the next generation of artists, ensuring they are well-equipped to navigate the challenges of their careers. Her commitment to fostering talent reflects her desire to give back to the industry that has shaped her own successful career.
