Truecaller, a popular app that helps identify callers, has recently launched a web version of its service called Truecaller for Web. This new version allows users to access various features directly from their computer, including the ability to mirror SMS messages and chats, receive notifications for incoming calls, and search for phone numbers.
Currently, this web version is only available to users who have Android devices, but Truecaller plans to make it accessible for iPhone users in the future. To use Truecaller for Web, Android users can easily link their phone to the web version on a PC or Mac by scanning a QR code. However, there are some limitations: users can only have one active session at a time, and if they don’t use the service for 30 days, they will be automatically logged out. Users can also choose to disconnect their browser from their account whenever they want, similar to how you might link and unlink messaging apps like WhatsApp or Telegram.
Truecaller has a large user base, especially in India, where it has around 259 million users. While the web version is a welcome addition, it is somewhat late to the game when it comes to features like SMS and chat mirroring, as similar services are already offered by companies like Microsoft through their Phone Link service for both Android and iPhone users. Still, the new web features could make it easier for users to quickly respond to texts or retrieve one-time passwords (OTPs) needed for logging into accounts.
In addition to the new web functionalities, Truecaller already allowed users to look up phone numbers on its website, but there were some limitations on how many searches could be done. With the new web client, users can now search for numbers without those restrictions. The web version also provides real-time notifications for incoming calls, which can be very helpful.
Truecaller reports that around 80 million users receive daily summary notifications for SMS messages, indicating that these users have allowed the app to access their text messages. However, it’s unclear if these users are using Truecaller as their main SMS app.

Recently, Truecaller has been focusing on adding more features powered by artificial intelligence (AI). For instance, they introduced a new feature for Android users that blocks calls from unknown or spam numbers detected by AI. Earlier this year, they also added call recording and AI transcription features for users in India after launching them in the U.S. last year.
Despite facing a decline in revenue that led to a significant drop in its stock price in October 2023, Truecaller’s stock has since recovered from a low of SEK24.47 (about $2.32) to around SEK31.68 (about $3) at the time of this update.
Finally, Truecaller clarified that the rollout of the web feature is happening globally, not just in India, and this information has been updated accordingly.
