The General Services Administration (GSA), which is the government agency responsible for managing federal buildings, is planning to turn off all the electric vehicle (EV) chargers it operates. This information was reported by a news outlet called The Verge.
The GSA has a network of hundreds of electric vehicle chargers, equipped with a total of about 8,000 charging ports. These chargers are primarily used for vehicles owned by the government and for those used by federal employees. According to a source who spoke to The Verge, federal workers will receive instructions next week on how to shut these chargers down. In some areas, regional offices have already been informed to stop using their chargers.

In a related situation, Colorado Public Radio found an internal email that revealed charging stations at the Denver Federal Center will also be turned off. The email stated that these chargers are considered “not mission critical,” meaning they are not essential for the agency’s main functions.
On a larger scale, this move seems to connect with broader actions taken during President Donald Trump’s administration, which aimed to reduce the size of government agencies and decrease federal support for renewable energy projects. This includes cutting back on funding for programs that previously provided financial assistance to companies like Tesla for building EV charging stations.
