Trump Ends Legal Fight Over Twitter Ban

President Donald Trump’s legal battle against the social media platform formerly known as Twitter seems to have come to an end.

After the events of January 6, 2021, when a group of Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol, Twitter banned him from using the platform. In response, Trump decided to sue Twitter, claiming that the ban was unfair. However, in 2022, a federal judge dismissed his lawsuit, meaning the court ruled against him. Even after this ruling, Trump’s lawyers kept trying to appeal the decision.

Not long after the judge’s decision, Elon Musk, who has become an important ally of Trump, bought Twitter and changed the name to X. After acquiring the platform, Musk decided to reinstate Trump’s account, allowing him to use it again. Other social media platforms, like Facebook, also restored Trump’s accounts. However, Trump predominantly shares his thoughts and updates on Truth Social, a platform that is run by his own company, Trump Media & Technology Group.

Recently, a document filed in court revealed that both Trump and X (formerly Twitter) are asking the court to dismiss the lawsuit. They didn’t share any specific details about any deal they reached, but they did mention that each side has agreed to cover their own legal costs.

Additionally, in January of this year, another social media company, Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, agreed to pay $25 million to settle a similar lawsuit related to Trump’s ban from those platforms.
