Ubi Franklin allegedly scammed me out of $5,000 by using Davido’s name, according to Spyro.

Singer Spyro Accuses Ubi Franklin of Scamming Him Out of $5,000

In a recent interview on the Echoroom podcast, singer Spyro has made serious allegations against well-known music executive Ubi Franklin, claiming that he was scammed out of $5,000. Spyro recounted his experience, revealing how he was misled into performing at a birthday party in Ghana under the pretense that the request came from popular artist Davido.

The Incident

Spyro explained that he was initially contacted by Franklin, who informed him about a birthday celebration for Iyanya taking place in Ghana. Franklin convinced Spyro to attend, suggesting that Davido had a role in the event. Spyro stated, “Ubi Franklin is one of those few people that I respected until recently.” He expressed his disappointment, noting that he felt manipulated by someone he once held in high regard.

Upon arriving at the airport in Ghana, Franklin mentioned that there would be performances at the party. However, Spyro was hesitant, insisting that he would not perform without his manager present. He was accompanied by his friend Swavey, which provided him with additional support in maintaining his professional boundaries.

The Performance Request

After meeting with Davido, Spyro was informed by Franklin that Davido had requested him to perform at the birthday party, with an offer of $5,000 for his performance. Spyro clarified that his standard fee was N20 million, emphasizing that he could not leave his management without consulting them first. Despite his initial reluctance, Spyro felt pressured when Franklin insisted that he was expected to go on stage, especially in front of dignitaries.

“I met with Davido when we got there. It was at the time I wanted to release ‘Stand By You’. So, we left Davido’s place and went to our apartment. I was producing a song with Iyanya, and Ubi came and said Davido asked me to perform at the party and that he would give us $5k,” Spyro recounted.

Aftermath and Frustration

After completing the performance, Spyro sought payment from Franklin, but he was met with silence. According to Spyro, Franklin ignored his requests until they returned to Lagos. “Ubi just kept ignoring me. It was becoming a mess. He was taking me for a fool and told me not to call Davido because he didn’t ask him to have me perform,” Spyro said, expressing his frustration.

Spyro also mentioned that Pastor Bolaji was brought into the situation, but he still received no communication from Franklin. “There has been no call or chat from Ubi. It’s painful because he goes around scamming people of their money. I’m saying this to protect other artists who may fall victim to this,” Spyro concluded.

Spyro’s allegations against Ubi Franklin shed light on the darker side of the music industry, where artists can be exploited. His story serves as a cautionary tale for fellow musicians, urging them to remain vigilant and protect themselves from potential scams.
