Ukraine responds as Russia accuses it of trying to damage its relationship with Nigeria

Ukraine’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Ivan Kholostenko, has made serious accusations against Russia, claiming that the country is intentionally sabotaging global food security. He points to Russia’s withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative as a significant factor in this disruption, along with its targeted attacks on Ukrainian grain exports.

Kholostenko’s remarks came in response to assertions made by Russia and certain other nations, which suggested that Ukraine was involved in instigating protests in Nigeria. These claims appear to be an attempt to shift blame and damage Ukraine’s reputation on the international stage.

The Russian government has alleged that the United States, Britain, and Ukraine are conspiring to undermine its relations with Nigeria by linking it to these protests. This narrative aims to create a facade that diverts attention from Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

In a statement, Yury Paramonov, the Press Secretary of the Russian embassy in Nigeria, accused Ukraine of attempting to interfere in Nigeria’s internal affairs. He asserted that Ukraine is trying to deflect responsibility onto Russia for the ongoing tensions.

In response to these claims, Kholostenko strongly condemned the Russian regime and its actions on the global front. He emphasized that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, is an “unprovoked and unjustified aggressive war” aimed at the complete occupation of Ukraine and the erasure of its national identity.

Kholostenko stated, “Ukraine knows perfectly well what the Russian regime is.” He expressed a desire to present the truth regarding the situation. His comments reflect deep concern over the ongoing conflict and its broader implications.

He highlighted the numerous war crimes and atrocities committed by the Russian army in Ukraine, noting that civilians, including women and children, are subjected to violence, including killings, rapes, and torture on a daily basis. This portrayal underscores the humanitarian crisis resulting from the conflict.

Furthermore, Kholostenko referenced the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant issued against Russian President Vladimir Putin. This warrant pertains to the unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children from occupied territories, serving as a stark example of Russia’s blatant disregard for international law.

The ambassador’s statements reveal a commitment to bringing attention to the harsh realities faced by Ukrainians amidst the ongoing war. By condemning Russia’s actions, he aims to rally international support for Ukraine and highlight the need for accountability.

In summary, Kholostenko’s remarks reflect a broader narrative of resistance against Russian aggression, emphasizing the importance of international solidarity in addressing the challenges posed by the conflict and its impact on global food security.
