Users Stranded As Facebook And Instagram Face Outage, Meta Apologizes

A significant problem has occurred that is affecting millions of people around the world who use Meta’s popular apps, such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Many users are finding that they cannot access their accounts or post anything on these platforms.

People have been sharing their experiences on social media, particularly on X (formerly known as Twitter), where it’s clear that this issue is widespread. A website called Downdetector, which monitors service outages, has reported a huge increase in the number of complaints about problems with Meta’s services. For example, Instagram has received over 71,000 reports of issues, and Facebook has seen more than 107,000 complaints from users globally.

When users try to log into Facebook, they are often met with a message that says, “We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.” This situation has led many users to turn to X to see if others are experiencing the same problems. The hashtag #instagramdown has been trending on X, indicating that many people are discussing the outage.

For instance, a user named Shay, who tweets under the handle #uloveshaaay, expressed relief by saying, “Every time my Instagram or Facebook doesn’t work, I run to Twitter to see if it’s just me. Thank God I’m not the only one!” Another user, #iamrazi18, shared a similar sentiment, tweeting about rushing to Twitter to check if the outage was due to their own internet connection or if it was a broader issue.

In response to the downtime, Meta acknowledged the problem on X, stating, “We’re aware that a technical issue is impacting some users’ ability to access our apps. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.” Instagram also posted a similar message, saying, “Hi, we know there’s a technical issue impacting some people’s ability to access Instagram. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and are sorry for any inconvenience.” WhatsApp added that they are aware of the issues and are actively working on a solution, with some users beginning to see improvements.

This disruption is not the first of its kind; there have been similar outages affecting Meta’s apps before, including a significant one that occurred in March. Now, as Meta works to resolve the current issues, users are left waiting for updates on when everything will be back to normal.
