Former Big Brother Naija season nine contestant, Tunji ‘Tjay‘ Adeniji-Soji, has opened up about his decision to leave his pregnant wife at home to join the show.
Tjay, a 33-year-old medical doctor, was recently evicted alongside Handi and Shaun. Notably, during his fourth week in the house, he and his wife welcomed twin boys.
In an interview with journalists, the reality star described the choice to participate in the show as a “difficult” one for both him and his wife.
“It was tough for both of us,” Tjay confessed. “I had assumed the show would air after the delivery, but the timing of the pregnancy changed.”
He explained that, despite her initial concerns, after a lengthy discussion, she ultimately encouraged him to join BBNaija.
“She said, ‘Okay, fine, there’s no point in looking back now,’ even though it was very challenging for her. She wanted me to focus on my dreams and assured me she would manage everything,” he shared.
Tjay also mentioned that his wife received tremendous support from friends, family, and fans while he was on the show.
“But she had a lot of help, and I won’t deny that,” he added.
“A significant number of fans reached out, and my friends were incredibly supportive. Our family was also there for her, so she was never unsupported or lonely. I always admire women who back their partners in pursuing their dreams, and my wife exemplified that strength.”
Tjay, along with Handi and Shaun, was evicted on Sunday, leaving six housemates still competing in the show.
This year’s BBNaija kicked off on July 28, introducing 28 housemates paired into teams of 14.
The grand prize for this season is an impressive N100 million, which includes both cash and an SUV, with additional sponsored prizes to be revealed later.
The ongoing season will last for 10 weeks, culminating in the finale on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
