Famous music executive Banky W has revealed that Wizkid began his career as a studio enthusiast. He shared this while reflecting on Wizkid’s early struggles before achieving fame. In a viral video on social media, Banky W, who played a crucial role in launching Wizkid’s career through his record label, Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), disclosed that Wizkid spent countless hours at various studios because he couldn’t afford studio time.

Describing the Afrobeat star as a “studio rat,” Banky W acknowledged Wizkid’s dedication and talent. He explained, “Wizkid wasn’t fortunate enough to pay for studio time for a long time. He became a studio rat, going to any studio that would let him hang out, hoping that engineers and producers would take pity on him and allow him to record for 15 or 30 minutes since he couldn’t afford a full session.

“All day long, he would work on hooks and melodies, preparing for the chance to jump on the mic for even five minutes. At that moment, he didn’t have the luxury to think about what to write, which shaped his creative process. Now, he is one of the fastest songwriters I’ve ever met; he can sit, listen, and start freestyling a melody that turns into a song everyone wants to sing. That’s where the name Wiz originated,” he said.
