Yemi Elesho revealed that he used to pay Asake with a plate of rice and a bottle of soft drink as his performance fee.

Nigerian actor and content creator Yemi Elesho recently shared insights into his long-standing relationship with Grammy-winning singer Asake. In an engaging interview with streamer Jigan, Elesho reflected on their friendship, which dates back to their undergraduate years at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife.

Elesho emphasized the depth of their connection, revealing that he and Asake have collaborated extensively over the years. He reminisced about the early days when he would compensate Asake for his appearances in movies and skits with a simple yet heartfelt payment: a plate of rice costing ₦700 and a bottle of Coca-Cola.

“I used to give Asake a ₦700 plate of rice and a bottle of Coca-Cola as performance fees for him to feature in movies during our undergraduate days at OAU,” he recalled fondly. This modest arrangement highlights the humble beginnings of their careers in the entertainment industry.

Yemi further expressed his affection for Asake, referring to him as “my day-one, my very good friend.” He shared that they have numerous pictures and videos capturing their memorable moments together at the university. The two friends even participated in celebrity football matches, showcasing their camaraderie and shared interests beyond their professional lives.

This nostalgic account not only reveals the evolution of their friendship but also underscores the grassroots nature of their respective journeys in the entertainment world, illustrating how far they have come from those early days at OAU.
